Getting started
Three steps, then it’s yours.
Install Amerus on your Mac
Download, drag it to Applications, and open it. Amerus sets up its own local AI during first-run setup — no Terminal, no configuration files, no account to create.
Give it what you want it to know
Add documents to the Vault, connect folders you already keep on your Mac or in iCloud Drive, and tell Amerus the things worth remembering. You choose every piece of it.
Ask it anything
Amerus answers from your own information, cites where each answer came from, and keeps the conversation on your machine. Online or off.

Ask in plain language. Amerus draws on your documents, your Memory and its local intelligence to answer — and shows its work. Click any citation and the source document opens at the page, paragraph or spreadsheet tab the answer came from.

Vault
The Vault is where your documents live — contracts, statements, records, manuals, research, anything you want Amerus to be able to read. Everything in it is stored on your Mac and encrypted at rest, and Amerus can search and reason across all of it at once.

- Preview documents without leaving Amerus
- Keep a document private, share it with specific profiles, or make it available to everyone on that Mac
Memory
Memory is what turns a chatbot into a personal aide. Tell Amerus something once and it holds on to it — how you like answers written, what your business does, who matters to you, what’s coming up. Your context compounds instead of resetting.

- Optional PIN protection on each profile
Connections
Connections bring in information you already have, without leaving Amerus. Pick a folder on your Mac or in iCloud Drive and Amerus indexes what’s inside and keeps it in sync. Connect Google Drive or Gmail through Google’s own sign-in. Import an Apple Health export from your iPhone.
- Connected files stay exactly where they are — Amerus never moves or copies them
- Exclude a folder or a single file whenever you like; Amerus stops using it and never deletes the original
- Disconnect a service and the connection closes
