Let first-run setup install the local AI

The first time you open Amerus it downloads and sets up the AI engine and the model that suits your Mac. This one step needs an internet connection and takes a few minutes — it is the last time Amerus needs the internet to think.

Create your profile and start

Pick a name, optionally set a PIN, and Amerus is ready. Add a document, connect a folder, or just start asking.

Computer	A Mac with Apple silicon — M1, M2, M3, M4 or later. Intel Macs are not supported.
Operating system	macOS 14 Sonoma or later
Memory	8 GB minimum; 16 GB recommended for the stronger models
Free disk space	About 6 GB for the app, AI engine and models, plus room for your Vault
Internet	Once, during first-run setup. Afterwards only for Connections you choose to use.
Account	None. Amerus does not ask you to create one.
